Why I Love Hypochlorous Acid Spray (And Why You Will Too)

Why I Love Hypochlorous Acid Spray (And Why You Will Too)

By Carley, Licensed Esthetician

Let’s talk about one of my all-time favorite skincare staples that barely gets enough attention: hypochlorous acid spray. It’s lightweight, powerful, and honestly, just plain convenient. If you’ve never heard of it, you’re about to be obsessed.

💧 What Is Hypochlorous Acid?

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring molecule your body makes to help fight off harmful bacteria. Sounds fancy, but it’s incredibly gentle and safe enough for all skin types, even sensitive.

It’s commonly used in medical-grade wound care, but in skincare, it works to:

  • Kill acne-causing bacteria

  • Calm irritation and redness

  • Soothe inflamed or compromised skin (think post-wax, post-gym, or maskne breakouts)

✨ Why I Always Keep It in My Bag

This spray is my go-to for on-the-go skin health. Here’s when I use it:

  • After the gym: Sweat is a breeding ground for breakouts. A quick spritz calms the skin and keeps bacteria in check.

  • Before date night (in the car): Fresh face, no fuss. It resets your skin, hydrates lightly, and doesn’t mess up makeup.

  • After waxing or extractions: Helps reduce inflammation and supports the skin’s healing process.

  • Maskne or irritated skin: If you wear a mask often or deal with breakouts along your chin and jaw, this spray is a total game-changer.

🧴 How to Use It

Super easy:

  1. Shake (if the brand suggests it)

  2. Spritz 2–4 times across clean skin

  3. Let it dry naturally, no need to wipe it off

You can use it before toner, after cleansing, or any time during the day as a calming refresher.

Trust me, once you start using hypochlorous spray, you won’t want to be without it. It’s one of those quiet hero products that does so much behind the scenes for your skin.
